Central Bedfordshire's Executive and Chairman elected

At Central Bedfordshire Council's Annual General Meeting last night (18 June), Councillor Tricia Turner MBE (Councillor for Northill & Blunham) was elected to be Leader of Council. Her Deputy is Richard Stay (Councillor for South East Bedfordshire). Cllr Stay will be responsible for the Business Transformation portfolio.
The Chairman and Vice-Chairman of the Council are Councillor Brian Spurr (Leighton Linslade Central) and Councillor Peter Hollick (Watling).
Other members of the new Executive are as follows:


• Cllr. Maurice Jones (Biggleswade) -Portfolio Holder for Corporate Resources
• Cllr Adam Fahn (Grovebury) - Assistant Portfolio Holder, Corporate Resources
• Cllr. Anita Lewis (Potton) -Portfolio Holder for Children's Services
• Cllr. Steve Male (Flitwick West) -Portfolio Holder for Culture and Skills
• Cllr Christina Turner (Stotfold and Arlesy) - Assistant Portfolio Holder, Children, Families and Learning
• Cllr. Carole Hegley (Dunstable Downs) - Portfolio Holder for Social Care and Health
• Cllr. Rita Drinkwater (Silsoe and Shillington) - Portfolio Holder for Housing
• Cllr David Bowater (Leighton Linslade Central) - Assistant Portfolio Holder, Social Care, Health and Housing
• Cllr. David McVicar (Icknield) -Portfolio Holder for Safer and Stronger Communities
• Cllr Budge Wells (Woburn and Harlington) - Assistant Portfolio Holder, Safer and Stronger Communities
• Cllr. Tom Nicols (Toddington) - Portfolio Holder for Sustainable Development
• Cllr Ken Matthews(Cranfield) - Portfolio Holder for Economic Growth and Regeneration


Cllr Tricia Turner, Leader of the Council said:
"The election of the new council has completed the democratic part of creating our new unitary authority and I know that all 66 members of Central Bedfordshire are eager to take forward the important work of developing services and policies for our area"
"We will appoint a new Chief Executive in July from a strong field of candidates. They will work with Members and partners to take Central Bedfordshire forward. As Leader I have sought to bring together a new Executive which combines experience with those who have not previously served on an Executive."
