However many interviews you do, you are never really prepared for the inevitable questions which make us all squirm like...

Why do you want to work for us? - I am sure that this is an ego trip on behalf of the employer...just how much grovelling will the candidate do? The best approach is to simply say that they represent your best opportunity for advancement. Don't elaborate unless you have to. Too much grovelling can be negative. Make sure you mention your desire to work in Bedford as this will demonstrate an afinity with the location.

What is your greatest weakness? -  Choose an answer which only has a minor impact on your function. Also qualify your answer by outlining briefly the steps you are currently following to improve yourself in that area. Sometimes this question is cleverly disguised so be alert. It could come in the form of ... What aspect of your day-to-day responsibilities do you dislike? OR     Think back to your last review. What suggestions did your supervisor have for improvement? OR Talk us through a project you worked on that had problems? OR What part of your duties do you think you can do better?

Interviewers find that job seekers reveal more when they are asked to tell a story. The assumption is made that the more you talk, the more likely you'll disclose your weaknesses.

Remember that most candidates will respond to the basic questions equally. It's these awkward questions which usually decide who gets the job.

At the end of the day it is the interviewer's job to pry information from you which will allow them to decide whether your CV goes in the bin or in the shortlist pile. So be prepared.
