Bedford Housing Plans

An era of renewal and development is planneed for Bedford over the coming years. A major part of this is the delivery of nearly 20,000 new homes in the area by 2022.

These homes will be erected across Bedford, Mareston Vale and Kempston, an area identified as a growth area by Government. Developments will vary in size from large new communities to small groups of housing. Click here for an area map showing these planned developments.

The innovative Wixams development which started in Feb 2007 is one of the largest brownfield housing development projects in England. The project is centred approximately three miles south of Bedford at the Elstow Storage Depot area. The project will transform 750 acre brownfield site into four garden villages, a town centre and an employment area, offering schools, community facilities,homes and jobs.

An informal partnership called Renaissance Bedford was created to assist with the challenge of delivering to the Bedford and North Marston Vale Growth Area the targets for new homes, infrastructure and jobs.
